Night: Section 2

As we left off in the first chapter Eli and his family were packed into cattle cars ready to be shipped to auschwitz. The cattle cars arent the best kind of transportation because the air in there is very scarce, it is really hot, barely any room at all, and everyone is hungry. After a couple of days the train stops at the Czechoslovakian border, a german solider takes control of the train. He is telling them if anyone escapes, everyone in the car dies. The story then turn to a old women named Madame Schachter who starts screaming about a fire that she seems to be halucinating about. Fearing that this might anger the German they tie her up and make it so she cannot scream, she breaks free and start he screaming again. This time a couple of boys on the train beat her up so she will be quiet. The train stops and the jews relize that they have reached auschwitz, they bribe some local people about what this place actually is and they tell them that it is a labor camp. Some relief comes to the jews when the local tells them that they would be treated well and be kept with their families. As the night comes the old lady begins to scream again and once again is beaten to be quiet. As the train moves along the jews begin to see Birkenau, which is the place were all the new coming jew go. They also relize this horrible stench in the air and are soon discover the horrible truth about this odor, it burning human flesh.
